Vanilla Quirks in Cold Process Soap

Vanilla Quirks in Cold Process Soap

Everyone loves Vanilla!

Vanilla a/k/a Vanillin can have crazy results in cold process soaps. Typically this is a vanilla in a fragrance oil.

  • The most common is turning your colors different shades of brown.
  • It can accelerate trace, in other words cause the batter to thicken quickly.
  • The scent can fade during curing.

BUT! when it turns out well it can be lovely.

In these videos I show my first learning experience with a scent that contained vanilla. I have since learned to look for it on the label. Reputable fragrance suppliers will list if there is vanilla and at what percentage.

Part 2 The Cut

The Final Result

The vanilla turned a rich dark brown which looks great and the scent is divine. Unfortunately the lather is a rusty color which I did not like.
